If you’re a fan of warm, spiced beverages, this spiked apple cider will quickly become your go-to drink during fall and winter. It’s simple to make with pantry staples and can be prepared in advance for convenience.

- 4 cups apple cider
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 4 whole cloves
- 2 star anise
- 1 orange sliced
- ½ cup dark rum or bourbon adjust to taste
- Optional garnishes: apple slices additional cinnamon sticks
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine apple cider, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, and orange slices.
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and let it cook for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Remove from heat and strain to remove the spices and orange slices.
Stir in the dark rum or bourbon.
Pour into mugs and garnish with apple slices or a cinnamon stick if desired.
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the rum or bourbon.
- Adjust the sweetness by adding a tablespoon of maple syrup or honey if the cider is too tart.
- This recipe can be easily doubled or kept warm in a slow cooker to serve a larger crowd.
